San Diego County Wildfires

The 'Cedars' fire and several others burning simultaneously in 2003 barely missed the Woof'n Rose Vineyard. The 'Cedars' Fire burned through Ramona and passed by us on the south side of the ridgeline about a mile to our south, flames were visible much of the time and the sky was aglow at night, both from this fire and multiple other large fires in the surrounding areas of the county. While the 2007 'Witch Creek' Fire also came close, within a couple of miles, it crossed to the north of us on the opposite side of the Ramona Valley. It would have been fully visible from the vineyard but no photos were taken since we evacuated with the rest of Ramona. Our First Grenache crop was very slow in ripening and still on the vine when the 'Witch Creek' Fire came through in late October 2007. Heat from the fire may have been instrumental in finally ripening these grapes which were harvested the weekend after the fire passed. We all thank the heroic firefighters.
