In part it is romantic and wistful thinking to believe that roses can give early warnings of vineyard problems; but they do suffer from many of the same blights such as mildew and caterpillars, so while vineyard issues may not be preventable by observing the roses, the roses do serve as a diagnostic indicator of what may be happening in the vineyard.

However, the main reasons for the roses are beautiful colors and fragrances; in short we like them.
